Sat. Aug. 21st will mark the first official race on the new
¼ mile oval racetrack for So. Calif. Flat Track Assoc. at Perris Raceway, 1205 Burton Road, Perris, Calif.

FlatTrack.com is going to have an Ascot Racers Reunion, and
in conjunction there will be a 30 year Memorial for Steve Polson, a Professional Flattrack Racer from Hemet, who died Aug 11, 1980 from injuries suffered while Racing at Ascot.

Steve began his sportsman TT riding in District 37,
during 1975-1977.He obtained his Pro FlatTrack license in 1978 and earned his required points as a novice aboard a 250
Yamaha in his first Pro Year. In 1979-1980 he competed as
A Jr. racing a 750cc Yamaha at tracks in Houston, Florida, including Daytona, but considered Ascot to be his home track. He was ranked in the top 10 Jr.s and was invited to the San Jose Mile. He had earned the points necessary at the time of his death to become an expert the following year.  AMA retired his racing number 62e.
The entire Polson family and many friends will be attending this race in Steves Honor & to celebrate his life. We look forward to seeing anyone that would like to join us.

Gates open: 3pm, practice 5pm, racing to follow.

Elliott's Notes

If you were at the last practice, you know our new cushion track surface was pretty loose. Too much of anything and all that! Since the last practice four loads of clay have been added to the track surface to help hold the track surface together. The track will be tested shortly to make sure that more clay is not needed. I was told it's easy to mix it in, but really hard to get it back out. We should have a much improved surface over the July 31st evening, even though it was fun for the first ten laps or so.

Practice this Saturday, August 14, 4-9 PM. Weather should be warm and clear. Bring shade and water, or your favorite fluid of choice.

Racing next Saturday, August 21. Gates open at 3 PM. If you are not able to make practice, plan on gearing 2-3 teeth less on the rear for the longer track.

Also:

Join Southern California Flattrack Association at Perris Raceway on August 21, 2010 as we celebrate the memory of Steve Polson.
A Southern California boy, Steve considered Ascot Raceway in Gardena, Ca his home track.
During his short career he raced the San Jose Mile, Houston and Daytona.
Steve started his career racing Amatuer TT from 1975-1977.  In 1978 he ran his first year in the AMA Flattrack Pro Series.  In 1979 Steve advanced to Junior status and in 1980 had acquired enough points to become and expert. On August 11, 1980 injuries from an accident at Ascot would claim his life.  The Number 62e was retired by the AMA. Come on out and do a lap for Steve.

Dont forget our informal "Ascot Reunion":

It has been 40 years since Bruce Brown filmed "On Any Sunday" and the heyday of Ascot so FlatTrack.com is going to have an Ascot Races Reunion at Perris Raceway on August 21. This will also celebrate the first race on the new quarter mile track.

Vince Graves, president of the Southern California Flat Track Association, said we can have a special exhibition race for those who raced at Ascot. So bring your photographs, programs, and old Ascot bikes to Perris Raceway on August 21.

There will be practice August 14. For directions go to the SCFTA website.
